Hi, I’m Rick.
I’m not a brand. I’m a person.
I’ve been reading Tarot for 25 years. I’m a spirit communicator, a published author, a software engineer, and the person behind Tarot Fellow, here in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Why my logo…
I was born in Salt Lake City. Being gay and raised LDS in a strict, traditional home pushed me to ask hard questions about God, truth, and my own inner strength.
Coming out could have been a lot easier had I not insisted on leaning on spiritual frameworks that tried to dismiss my lived experience. Then again, I can’t call any of that struggle or that time ‘bad.’ Look at what it led to!
That’s why the Tarot Fellow logo is The Hanged Man, one of my favorite cards. His story is about finding your spiritual self through a change in perspective. That turn upside-down has been the theme of my life, which is why I feel tied to him… no pun intended.
And why nude? Well, it immediately filters out those who wouldn’t feel comfortable with my story to begin with.
Our whole world needs to shift upside down in order for us to understand what we’re seeing.
Me, teaching The Hanged Man in my Tarot class
A storyteller first
When I was eight, my family came to believe our house had an unseen “other family” living in it. That ghost story is still my answer when people ask why I write dark fiction, or what my first experiences were with the spirit world.
My first novel, Facade of Shadows, began as a high-school English assignment. The prologue won first place in a literary magazine competition, and I wrote most of the rest in my a science class. It was published in 2006. The Crossing Death books came next: Death of the Body in 2013 and Death of the Spirit in 2015. That same year, one of my short stories appeared in nEvermore! Tales of Murder, Mystery and the Macabre, an anthology edited by Nancy Kilpatrick and Caro Soles that also includes authors like Christopher Rice and Margaret Atwood.
I’ve spoken about writing at high schools, literary conferences, and libraries. By trade, I’m a software engineer who builds commerce systems for large retailers. TarotFellow.com was the first project where my engineering, writing, and spirituality came together.
How Tarot found me
I started reading Tarot at 18 (yes, with a gifted deck… but let’s not perpetuate that stereotype), the usual way: by memorizing keywords. Then I found the Fool’s Journey, the story that runs through the Major Arcana, and it hooked me. I’m a storyteller at heart, and now the cards were stories too.
So I wrote my own card meanings as stories, and I’ve studied and revised them for years. I tested teaching Tarot this way, and that evolved into many online and in-person classes, and the Learn tab in my app.
How I read
Most of the time, I let spirit dictate the spread at the time of the reading. When I do read in a set spread, it’s usually the Celtic Cross. Reversed cards get what I call The Shadowed Perspective.
The Shadowed Perspective is what you read when a reversal appears: the subplot, the story underneath, the other side of the duality, which is often the more important point of the card.
If you can’t find duality in a Tarot card, you don’t know the card.
I’m a Pisces, and the Moon is the Pisces card. I live in its dreamy inner world all day, every day (which drives my husband nuts. He often asks me what world I live in. Not this one).

Talking with spirit
I’ve been called a witch, a psychic, a medium and a spiritualist. None of those labels quite fit, but they’re probably all true.
The name Tarot Fellow is a nod to where I started.
I channel, and love leading sound journeys with crystal alchemy bowls. At one of my first sound baths, a Shungite bowl brought me to tears without warning. Years later, one joined my own set. I still host community sound journeys here in St. Pete.
You’ll find me investigating haunted places with Skyway Paranormal, and talking about spirit work on podcasts like The Haunted Road Trips Show, Soul Chats and Mystically Inclined, hopefully teaching that communicating with spirit doesn’t have to be scary.
