The Role of Chime Candles in Spellcraft
Chime candles, also called spell candles or mini taper candles, are the workhorse format of practical candle magic. At 1/2 inch in diameter and approximately 4 inches in height, they burn completely in roughly two hours, making them ideal for spells that require a full candle burn in a single session without the time commitment of a larger taper or pillar. The complete burn is significant in candle magic practice: the candle consummating its purpose by burning fully is considered the completion of the working.
An assorted 20-pack provides the color range needed to match a candle to the intention of any working without keeping a separate inventory of single-color packs. Color correspondence is foundational in most candle magic systems. Green draws prosperity and abundance, red works with passion and fast action, white serves for purification and protection, blue addresses healing and emotional clarity, black handles banishing and boundary work, and purple supports psychic work. An assorted pack makes it practical to work across intentions.
Candle Magic Across Traditions
Color candle magic is used in many traditions, including hoodoo. Candles serve as focal points for directed intention and as physical anchors for sigil work, with color serving as a programmatic element of the spell design.
Chime candles are designed to fit standard chime candle holders, which have a narrower socket than taper holders. If you do not already have holders, visit my chime candle holders section for compatible options. A single working might use one candle; a more elaborate altar setup might burn several simultaneously on different intentions.
How to Use Assorted Chime Candles
Step-by-step guide for using this product.
- Choose the Correct Color for Your Intention
Select the candle color that aligns with your goal. Green for money, red for passion and courage, black for banishing, white for purification, blue for healing, purple for psychic work. Write your intention on paper or carve it into the candle.
- Dress the Candle with Oil if Desired
To strengthen the working, anoint the candle with a ritual oil suited to the intention. Apply from base to wick to attract energy toward you. A small amount on your fingertips is enough. Place the dressed candle in a holder on a fire-safe surface.
- Light and Hold the Intention Through the Burn
Light the candle and state your intention clearly, aloud or in focused silence. Chime candles burn for approximately two hours. Check periodically and never leave burning candles unattended. Allow to burn completely for the full working to complete.
The Tarot Fellow Standard
I carry assorted chime candle packs because the color range is essential for flexible spell work, and buying a single color at a time is inefficient for practitioners who work across multiple intentions throughout the month. This 20-pack gives you the full working palette without commitment to a single intention. Hoodoo is a living tradition, and a candle like this is a supply, not a substitute for learning from its practitioners. Chime candles are one of the most-reached-for items in any practical magical kit, and they sit naturally alongside my oils, herbs, and other ritual supplies in my broader chime candle collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Chime candles are the standard candle magic format. Their small size allows a complete burn in about two hours, which practitioners consider full consumption of the spell's energy. They are dressed with oils and burned in colors matching each goal.
Color correspondence is central to candle magic. Green draws prosperity, red fuels passion, black banishes negative energy, white purifies, blue supports healing, yellow aids communication, and purple strengthens psychic ability and spiritual focus.
Standard half-inch chime candles burn for approximately two hours in still air. Drafts and wax composition affect burn time slightly. They are designed to burn completely in a single sitting, which is the standard ritual intention for candle magic.
Chime candles need a half-inch socket holder, narrower than a standard taper holder. Regular taper holders will not grip a chime candle securely. Chime candle holders are sold separately in wood, ceramic, and metal formats to suit any altar style.
