Basil in Folk Magic Traditions
Basil (Ocimum basilicum) holds a prominent position in money-drawing and prosperity work across several folk magic traditions. It is used in African American hoodoo for love-drawing and protection, among other traditions, and it is also regarded as a lucky herb associated with financial gain, the clearing of debt, and the attraction of stable income. The herb’s green color and strong, fresh scent have long connected it symbolically to growth and new beginnings.
Espiritu’s basil formula translates that traditional plant correspondence into a ritual fragrance oil that can be applied without the preparation involved in working with fresh or dried herb. The oil carries the scent signature of basil with a formula base designed for anointing candles, dressing petition papers, loading charm bags, and preparing ritual tools. These are fragrance oils, meaning they are compounded for spiritual application rather than aromatherapy or skin care. For more aroma oils, browse my oils and diffusers collection.
Why the 16 oz Size Matters for Serious Practitioners
The 16 oz format is Espiritu’s largest commonly available bottle size and represents a substantial supply for any practitioner who uses ritual oils regularly. A single 16 oz bottle yields far more working material than a standard 1 oz or 2 dram bottle, making it the practical choice for teachers leading group rituals, apothecaries blending custom formulas, and shop owners who supply clients. The economy of scale also allows practitioners to experiment more freely with dosage and application method without rationing drops from a small bottle.
The 16 oz size ensures a consistent supply for sustained work over time. I’ve found that practitioners working prosperity spells on a monthly candle cycle, such as burning a dressed candle on each new moon, go through basil oil quickly enough that the large format pays for itself in reduced reorder frequency.
How to Use Basil Ritual Oil 16oz
Three practical ways to use Espiritu basil ritual oil in money-drawing and prosperity work.
- Decant for Daily Working Use
Decant a small amount into a 1 oz dropper bottle for daily use. The 16 oz bottle is a concentrate-style refill source, and working from a smaller vessel keeps your main supply fresh and reduces contamination from repeated dipping.
- Dress a Prosperity Candle
Dress a green or gold candle by applying a small amount of basil oil from the base upward toward the wick, then roll the candle in dried basil herb if desired. Light it while focusing on a specific financial goal or obstacle to clear.
- Prepare a Money-Drawing Floor Wash
For floor washes, add several drops to a bucket of water with a pinch of salt, then mop the entrance of a home or business from the back door toward the front to draw prosperity inward. Dispose of wash water away from the property.
The Tarot Fellow Standard
I carry Espiritu’s full line because these are dependable working oils for regular ritual use. The basil formula in the 16 oz size is particularly well-suited to the practitioner who works prosperity magic regularly and doesn’t want to run out mid-ritual cycle. It’s an honest, working-practitioner tool rather than a decorative bottle. Browse the complete range in my Espiritu oils collection for the full catalog of formulas available in this size.
