Most vanilla fragrance oils today use synthetic vanillin derived from guaiacol or lignin, which is why the scent is stable, consistent, and far more accessible than true vanilla absolute, which remains one of the most expensive natural extracts in perfumery. How to Use Vanilla Fragrance Oil
Three ways to work with vanilla fragrance oil, from home diffusion to ritual use.
- Diffuse or Warm the Scent
Add 3 to 5 drops of this vanilla fragrance oil to your oil diffuser or wax warmer. The warm, sweet scent fills a room quickly, so start low and adjust to your preference. It pairs well with sandalwood or patchouli.
- Blend for Candle or Soap Making
For candle making, blend at a 6 to 10 percent fragrance load in your wax. Note that vanillin in vanilla fragrance oil will cause soy wax to turn amber or brown over time. This is normal and does not affect the scent.
- Anoint for Ritual Work
For ritual use, anoint a pink or red candle with a small amount of the oil, working from base to tip while holding your intention for love, comfort, or inner warmth. Let the candle burn in a safe holder on your altar.
