Dragon’s Blood Resin: History of a Ritual Powerhouse
Dragon’s blood is the common name for the deep red resin produced by several tree species across separate continents, most notably Dracaena draco of the Canary Islands and Socotra, Dracaena cinnabari, and Daemonorops draco of Southeast Asia. The resin’s vivid blood-red color made it notable across ancient cultures from the Mediterranean to East Asia, appearing in Roman medical texts, medieval European alchemy manuscripts, and Chinese traditional medicine as a wound-healing agent and protective material. In ritual contexts, dragon’s blood resin has been documented in use since at least the first century CE in Graeco-Egyptian magical papyri, where it was burned as a protective incense and used to empower written spells and amulets.
Dragon’s blood is used across many folk-magic traditions, where it is considered one of the most potent protective and power-amplifying resins available. In modern magical practice, dragon’s blood corresponds to the fire element and the planet Mars, making it the incense of choice for courage, assertiveness, and defensive magical work. It is also commonly used as an amplifier, burned alongside other incense to increase the potency of whatever working it accompanies.
Why Heavy Users Choose the 95 to 100 Stick Bulk Format
Dragon’s blood is not a once-in-a-while incense for most serious practitioners. It earns its place in protection work that is repeated regularly, in daily practice that opens every working session, and in cleansing rituals that may call for multiple sticks burned in sequence across a full house clearing. The 95 to 100 stick bulk format eliminates the interruption of running out mid-practice and the added cost of ordering small packs repeatedly. The resealable bag keeps unused sticks fresh through the extended use period. How to Use Dragon’s Blood Incense Sticks
Three steps for using Dragon’s Blood incense sticks in protection, banishing, and power-building ritual work.
- Choose Your Working Intention
Before lighting, decide if your session is protection, banishing, or amplification. Arrange the altar with fire-element colors like red or orange and protective crystals. State your working intention before touching flame to the tip.
- Light and Activate
Touch a flame to the stick tip for five seconds, blow out until only an ember glows. Dragon’s blood burns with warm, amber-tinged sweetness that fills space quickly. State your protective or banishing intention within the first minute of lighting.
- Layer With Other Ritual Tools
Dragon’s blood amplifies other tools when burned alongside them. Place it near a dressed protection candle, charged crystal, or written petition. Its use as a spell-strengthening agent is documented across historical magical practice and traditions.
The Tarot Fellow Standard
I stock dragon’s blood in the bulk format because protection and cleansing work often means burning several sticks in sequence. A 95 to 100 stick pack is the right quantity for a practitioner who burns it regularly rather than occasionally. Escential Essences produces this line in the USA, and the line covers a wide range of scents. Browse my ritual supplies for additional tools to complement a serious protective practice.
