Heart-Shaped Stones for Craft and Ritual
These 15mm heart beads come from a pool of six genuine stones: rose quartz (SiO2 with manganese inclusions, long used in European and Chinese traditions for heart-centered work), amethyst (purple macrocrystalline quartz, named from the Greek amethystos, meaning not intoxicated, tied to clarity and temperance), green aventurine (quartzite with fuchsite mica inclusions that produce the distinctive metallic shimmer called aventurescence), and clear quartz (silicon dioxide, piezoelectric, used across virtually every world mineral tradition as an amplifier). You receive two beads per pack, but you can’t select the stone type. If you need a specific stone, I carry single-specimen listings for most of these.
Two of the six stones in the assortment deserve a direct note. Lapis lazuli (a metamorphic rock composed primarily of lazurite, with calcite and pyrite inclusions) is sometimes sold with its blue color deepened by dye. Market-grade lapis beads often undergo this color treatment to produce a more uniform appearance. If the bead you receive looks flat and uniformly navy with no variation or white calcite streaks, it may be dyed. That doesn’t make it less of a lapis lazuli, but it’s worth knowing. Separately, almost all black onyx on the market is gray chalcedony (SiO2) that has been chemically treated to achieve a deep, uniform black. Naturally black onyx exists but it’s rare. If your pack contains a black stone, assume it’s been dyed, as that’s the norm for this material across the industry. Browse my stone and crystal bead collection if you want to compare other bead options with known stone types.
The heart shape has a longer history in spiritual craft than most people realize. It’s not purely a modern Valentine’s motif. Heart-cut stones appear in 19th-century European mourning jewelry, in Mesoamerican iconography tied to the physical heart as a site of life-force, and in contemporary crystal work influenced by the Theosophical model of the heart chakra (Anahata). At 15-20mm, these beads are large enough to serve as a focal pendant, small enough to integrate into a bracelet or mojo bag without bulk. If you’re building a love-and-connection altar piece or a crystal grid centered on compassion or grief work, the heart form itself carries the intention. How to Use These Heart Beads
Three steps for incorporating these gemstone heart beads into ritual jewelry or crystal work.
- Choose Your Stone with Intention
Pick up each bead in your pack and hold it for a moment before you use it. Rose quartz, amethyst, aventurine, lapis, onyx, and clear quartz each carry a different energetic focus, so let the stone you received guide your project’s intention.
- Cleanse Before You Create
Pass your heart beads through incense smoke or set them on a selenite slab overnight before stringing. This clears handling energy from shipping and prep, giving you a clean start whether you’re making ritual jewelry or a decorative piece.
- String and Charge the Finished Piece
Thread the beads onto cord or wire, then place the finished piece in moonlight or near a charged crystal for 4 to 6 hours. Heart-shaped stones amplify heart chakra resonance, setting the piece’s focus for whoever will wear or carry it.
The Tarot Fellow Standard
I stock these because the supplier has maintained consistent stone quality and accurate labeling on their carved and shaped stone lines for a long time. The heart beads I receive are properly drilled, don’t arrive with stress fractures at the drill hole, and the stone IDs match what’s in the pack. That’s a low bar, but it’s one that a surprising number of bead suppliers clear inconsistently. What I can’t verify for every individual pack is whether the lapis has been dye-enhanced or whether the clear quartz is fully natural versus lightly treated. For market-grade carved beads at this price point, some enhancement on the lapis and the black onyx is industry-standard. I’ve called that out above so you can factor it in.
One practical note: because this pack is two beads and the stone type is my choice at packing, don’t order this if you have a specific stone in mind for a deadline project. It’s better suited for people building a general supply or who are open to working with whatever stone shows up. The size range (15-20mm) also means the two beads in your pack may not be identical in dimensions, which is normal for natural stone carving.
Frequently Asked Questions
Stone type is selected by me at packing. Each pack of two could be rose quartz, lapis lazuli, amethyst, black onyx, green aventurine, or clear quartz. You can’t specify a type, so if you need a particular stone, check my single-stone listings.
Most black onyx on the market, including what I carry, is gray chalcedony dyed to achieve a uniform deep black. The dye is stable and won’t transfer to skin. Naturally black onyx exists but is rare, so assume this pack’s onyx is color-treated.
These heart beads measure approximately 15 to 20mm per piece, meaning they vary a little within that range. The product listing uses 15mm as a nominal size, but you may receive pieces closer to 18 or 20mm. Each pack contains two beads.
Heart-shaped stones suit love, compassion, and emotional balance work well. String them as a focal pendant, include them in a mojo bag, or place them on a crystal grid at the heart position. Cleanse onyx with sound or smoke rather than water.
