Three scents, one strong current
I stock this blend because it covers a lot of ground in a single stick. White sage carries a long ceremonial history in Indigenous American traditions, and its sharp, camphor-forward scent has become one of the most recognized cleansing fragrances in contemporary ritual practice. This is a commercially produced fragrance version, not a wild-harvested ceremonial item, but Auric Blends renders it cleanly, and the brightness is unmistakable from the first moment of smoke.
Patchouli is a different animal entirely. Pogostemon cablin, the plant behind it, has been used in South and Southeast Asian folk medicine and perfumery for centuries. In Western occult tradition, it’s associated with earth energy, sensuality, and prosperity work. It’s also one of the great fixatives in perfumery, meaning it slows the evaporation of lighter notes and gives a blend staying power. Here it does exactly that, pulling the bright sage down into something rounder and more grounded.
Dragon’s blood is a true resin fragrance, drawn from Dracaena or Croton lechleri trees depending on the source, and it’s been used in ritual contexts for protection and potency going back to ancient Mediterranean practice. It has a warm, slightly sweet, resinous profile that reinforces rather than competes with the other two notes. Together, these three work as a coherent ritual scent: the sage clears, the patchouli grounds, and the dragon’s blood fortifies. If you’ve worked with the white sage-only Escential Essences stick and want something with more depth, this is the natural next step.
How to use these incense sticks
Simple steps for getting the most from your White Sage, Patchouli, and Dragon's Blood incense sticks.
- Set your space and intention
Find a fireproof holder and place it on a stable, heat-safe surface. Light the tip of the stick, let it catch for a few seconds, then gently blow out the flame so the tip glows and smoke rises steadily.
- Hold the smoke where you need it
Let the smoke move through the space you want to shift. For protection work, start at the edges of the room and move inward. For spirit work or grounding, let the smoke settle near your altar or working space.
- Close the session and store safely
When you are done, press the lit tip firmly into a fireproof dish until the ember is out. Store remaining sticks in a cool, dry place away from humidity. They hold their scent best when kept in the original packaging.
Why I carry this
Escential Essences sticks are made in the USA, and the line covers many scents, including a white sage stick if you want to compare this blend with a single note.
Practical note: burn these in a well-ventilated space. The scent is strong by design, and dragon’s blood in particular can be intense in a small room. Open a window or crack a door, especially for the first few uses, until you get a sense of how much smoke works for your space.

Frequently asked questions
White sage opens with a bright, herbaceous edge. Patchouli brings a deep, earthy base that softens the sage. Dragon's blood adds a warm, resinous sweetness that ties the three together into a complex, layered scent.
No. This is a commercially produced fragrance incense stick. It captures the scent of white sage but is not a traditional ceremonial item. If you want actual dried white sage bundles, I carry those in my smudge stick section.
The single-note version is cleaner and more focused. This blend is richer and more complex, with patchouli grounding the sage and dragon's blood resin adding warmth and a protective quality to the overall profile.
Auric Blends Escential Essences sticks burn for approximately 55 minutes each, depending on air circulation. With 16 sticks per pack, you get a solid supply for regular ritual or meditation use without running out quickly.
