The Original Bangalore Masala Formula
Satya Nag Champa is made by Shrinivas Sugandhalaya, one of the Bangalore manufacturers that developed the classic Nag Champa formula in the mid-20th century. The masala method involves blending aromatic herbs, resins, woods, and a natural resin called Halmaddi into a paste, which is hand-rolled onto bamboo cores and dried slowly. This production process has not changed fundamentally in decades.
Halmaddi, extracted from the Ailanthus malabarica tree, gives traditional masala incense its slightly tacky texture and complex character when burning. Cheaper dipped incense achieves its scent through a fragrance oil coating on a blank charcoal stick, which burns hot and thin. Masala incense burns cooler and longer, releasing a more layered aromatic profile throughout the burn.
Why a Variety Pack Makes Sense
Most practitioners find one or two Satya scents they return to regularly, but the variety pack lets you identify those favorites without committing to multiple full-box purchases. The seven scents in this set cover different aromatic families: citrus-floral, resinous-sweet, woody, earthy, herbal-floral, and uplifting blended. That range makes it functional for daily rotation based on intention or mood.
How to Use the Satya Incense Variety Pack
Three steps for getting the most from your seven-scent collection.
- Sample the Unfamiliar Scents First
Open each box and set aside scents you already know. Start with the unfamiliar ones first. Light a stick and let it burn two to three minutes before judging; hand-rolled masala incense takes longer than charcoal-based sticks to reach its full
- Match Scents to Intentions
Match scents to specific intentions or times of day. Nag Champa and sandalwood suit meditation. Dragon's Blood suits protection or banishing work. Lavender supports relaxation. Patchouli and positive vibes scents pair well with abundance and
- Store Properly Between Uses
Store boxes not in active use in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Keep boxes sealed; masala incense absorbs ambient odors if left open. Partial boxes stored in a small resealable bag or tin will preserve the fragrance between uses.
The Tarot Fellow Standard
I stock Satya because the Shrinivas Sugandhalaya masala formula is the genuine article. The variety pack is my recommended starting point for anyone new to resin-based stick incense. Browse my Satya and Nag Champa incense for individual boxes and bulk packs.

Masala incense is made from a paste of aromatic herbs, resins, and Halmaddi, a natural resin used as a binder, hand-rolled onto bamboo sticks and dried slowly.
