Inside A Little Bit of Crystals Kit

A Little Bit of Crystals Kit is an introduction in a box. Cassandra Eason, an author with many titles on crystals, natural magic and divination, wrote the book, and the box adds three stones to handle while you read. The publisher describes the book as an exploration of the properties attributed to a variety of crystals and of the uses people find for them in the home, garden and workplace, as well as in matters of love. What you read here is crystal lore and traditional symbolism, the associations that collectors and ritual practitioners have built around stones, so it works best as a set of ideas to try. The kit belongs to the Little Bit series, a run of accessible guides to spiritual topics, and the publisher pitches it as a way to begin learning about crystals. You get one author’s voice, one book and three stones, which keeps a first look manageable. If you have never owned a stone, the format gives you a place to start: the book and three stones come together, so you learn what interests you before deciding what to buy.

The kit pairs each stone with a quality from crystal lore: amethyst with soothing, rose quartz with kindness and nurturing, and labradorite with compromise and adaptability. The cover shows the three stones in red compartments along the bottom: a deep violet stone, a pale pink one and a dark grey-green one, all smooth and rounded, the kind of stone you pick up without thinking. Three stones of three kinds give you something to compare, because color, translucency, weight and surface all differ from one to the next. The cover itself is deep purple, printed with a mint-green line drawing of a quartz cluster and ringed by an ornate red border, and a red burst on the front announces the 128-page book and the three crystals. The packaging says what is inside before you open it, which suits a first kit. Read together, the three associations cover calm, care and flexibility, a modest and everyday set of themes. The boxed set also works as a gift for a curious friend who hasn’t started a collection.

Practical Ritual Applications

Read the book a little at a time and keep the matching stone in your hand while you do. Note which of the book’s associations match your own impressions and which don’t; that comparison is how a personal practice starts. Give the stones a visible home, such as a desk, a shelf or a small altar, and set them out together when you want a quiet corner. You can pair them with candle work or journaling. If you enjoy a theme, try choosing the stone that matches the quality you want to think about that week, then see what the book says about it. When you are ready for more stones, browse my crystals, stones and gemstones collection and add one at a time. Treat the book’s uses as symbolism and personal ritual, never as a substitute for medical care.

How to Begin with A Little Bit of Crystals Kit

Here is a simple way to start working with the kit.

  1. Look Before You Read

Lay the three stones on a plain cloth in good light. Note the color, the weight in your hand and how much light passes through each one. Tilt the labradorite and watch its surface. Write one sentence about each stone before you open the book, so you have your own first impressions to compare against the author's.

  2. Read with a Stone in Hand

Open the book to the section on each stone and read it while holding that stone. Mark the associations that feel familiar and the ones that surprise you. Take a break between stones so the three don't blur together. After you finish, set the book aside and ask what you remember of each stone without looking.

  3. Give the Stones a Place

Choose a spot for the three stones where you will see them daily, away from direct strong sunlight. Many practitioners refresh a new stone by passing it through incense smoke or leaving it in moonlight overnight; this is a ritual habit. Keep a short log of what you notice, then revisit the book after a month.

The Tarot Fellow Standard

I stock A Little Bit of Crystals Kit because it starts a collection with a book to read. This kit hands you three stones and a book that explains them. When I choose starter products, I look for a clear scope and a reason to keep going, and this kit has both: the stones give you something to handle, the book gives you something to read, and the series gives you somewhere to go next. If you’re new to crystals, or you’re buying for someone who is, it makes a sensible first step. You can follow that series in my Little Bit series collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can amethyst and rose quartz go in the sun?

Amethyst is the one to watch. GIA says some amethyst color can fade with prolonged exposure to intense light and that amethyst shouldn't be subjected to heat, so a sunny windowsill is a poor home for it. GIA describes rose quartz as generally stable in light and heat. If you set stones out for ritual cleansing, choose moonlight over strong sun for the amethyst.

Can I get labradorite wet?

A quick wash is fine. GIA names warm, soapy water as a safe way to clean feldspar gems such as sunstone, and it gives the same advice for amethyst and rose quartz, though amethyst can fracture with abrupt temperature changes, so use lukewarm water for it. Skip steam cleaners for all three stones and skip ultrasonic cleaners for rose quartz and labradorite. Labradorite has a Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5, so dry it gently and keep it from knocks.

Why does labradorite flash different colors?

The flash is called labradorescence, an iridescent effect that comes from light reflecting off thin planes inside the stone. Because those planes run in one direction, the color shows at some angles and vanishes at others, so turn the stone under a lamp until it lights up. The colors range from blue and green to gold, yellow and purple, and a stone that looks dull from the front can flash from the side.

Is labradorite a type of moonstone?

No, they are separate minerals with overlapping names. Moonstone is a variety of the feldspar orthoclase and shows a drifting glow called adularescence. Labradorite is a calcium-rich feldspar first identified in Labrador, Canada, and its flash is labradorescence. GIA notes that a multicolored labradorite from Madagascar is sold as rainbow moonstone, so a stone sold under that name may be labradorite.

What is the difference between rose quartz and amethyst?

Both are quartz with a Mohs hardness of 7, and the difference starts with color and form. Amethyst is violet, colored by iron impurities and natural irradiation, and it often forms six-sided crystals. Rose quartz is pink and translucent, colored by microscopic fibers of another mineral, and GIA says it is always found in massive form, so it lacks regular crystal faces.
