Shungite: The Annoying Stone You’ve Overlooked

I could tell you about Shungite, how it supposedly blocks EMF, it’s protective and detoxifying properties, etc. Look that up in a book. I’d rather share what Shungite has taught me.

One of the first sound bath’s I went to began with a beautiful journey, until, off in the distance, one of the bowls made a sound that, I kid you not, was worse than nails on a chalkboard.

Luckily, it was far away and easy enough to ignore.

Until the practitioner put that damned thing right next to my head!

To say I struggled would be an understatement. I gritted my teeth and tried to “surrender.” The only reprieve came when the practitioner finally went away to some other bowls.

Then, I heard it. A resonance. While another bowl across the room played, the awful one next to my head sang. The resonant note was different, kinder to my ear (and my body).

And something in me… broke. That’s the only way I can explain it. I felt a snap, and my eyes flooded with lava-hot tears. I wasn’t crying. I wasn’t sad. But streams of searing tears came anyway.

The next time the practitioner came to play that bowl, it was beautiful.

The bowl hadn’t changed, but I certainly had.

After the sound bath concluded and everyone had left, I asked the practitioner about the bowl. “Shungite,” he said. “Do you want to sit with it? You can play it if you want.”

I didn’t play it. I didn’t need to. I did sit with it for a bit in extreme gratitude for whatever it broke in me that needed to be broken… or perhaps snapped into place?

Years later, when I was putting together my own set of sound bowls, one on my order list wasn’t available. The manufacturer called me and said, “We do have a Shungite bowl in that note. Would that work?”

Would. That. Work. I couldn’t help but laugh.

Shungite and I have had quite the relationship since. I never thought I’d see value or beauty in a plain black stone when there are so many flashy options.

I underestimated the spirit of the stone and the work it does for myself and others.

Today, in my own sound ceremonies, I coax an uncomfortable binaural from my Shungite bowl every. single. time. It likes it. And so do I.

How about you?

Are you willing “snap” back into place?
Will you brave the discomfort?
Can you break those things that aren’t part of your alignment?

If so, then form a relationship with Shungite…

Just know if it starts off annoying, you’re starting off right.

Thank you for being part of my journey,
Rick
